Honeymoon in Jaipur

We all have fascination with things associated with royalty and are inquisitive about how kings and queens used to live in the times gone by. Their magnificent palaces and forts still intrigue us and leave us awestruck by their majestic splendour. Who doesn’t want to have a slice of life that our ancient kings and queens used to enjoy? And what better time to do it than your honeymoon! If you too harbor similar thoughts and are planning to celebrate your honeymoon with royal pomp then Jaipur is the place to be.

Established by Kacchawaha Rajputs, Jaipur is a historical city with a vibrant culture. Its heritage is reflected in its enchanting bazaars, palaces, forts and havelis, and the uniform pink hue adds to the romance. The City Palace, located in the heart of city, is still the home of the erstwhile royal family. A visit to the palace will give you a glimpse of the resplendent era gone by. Close to the City Palace is Hawa Mahal – the Palace of Winds – the most widely recognized monument of Jaipur. Don’t go by the name; the name is a misnomer. This honeycomb structure is not a palace but a façade that was used by royal women to watch processions through the perforated stone screens.

About 10 km north of Jaipur, in the arid hill country surrounding the city, is the stunning Amer Fort that straddles the hillside. Not far from it, are the forts of Jaigarh and Nahargarh. All the three hill-top forts offer some of the most spectacular sunset sights with sun spreading its red gold rays over the pink city. You can’t come to Jaipur and go without experiencing Rajasthani culture; and Chokhi Dhani is the perfect place to have that experience. At this ethnic village resort you can have a dekko at the Rajasthani folk music and dance performances and enjoy delicious food in traditional style.

Good food is an essential part of honeymoon and authentic Rajasthani cuisine is something to die for. Dal-bati-choorma, gatte ki subzi, ker sangria, lal maas, and lahsun mirch ki chutney are some of the Rajasthani recipes that you can’t afford to give a miss. A few restaurants where you can have sumptuous Rajasthani food are: Copper Chimney, Apno Rajasthan, Surabhi, Spice Court and Choki Dhani. Beside these restaurants, LMB in the Old City is famous for its aloo tikki, dahi bada and chaat; Rawat Mishtaan Bhandar, near Polo Victory, is known for its michi vada and mawa kachori; and Shankar Namkeen Bhandar, off Chaura Rasta is popular for its mixed namkeen.
