Things to Do On a Honeymoon in Wayanad
Kalpetta, Mananthavady and Sulthan Bathery are the three major towns of Wayanad. Kalpetta is the district headquarters and the gateway to this region. Lakkidi, located 15 km from Kalpetta, offers a breathtaking valley view. Vythiri, an unassuming small hill station, is also located nearby and is known for its dense forests. Pookot Lake, about 1 km from Vythiri, is a popular picnic spot and has a pleasant walkway around it. Karalad Lake, located 16 km from Kalpetta, is spread over an area of 7 acre and provides facilities for angling and boating.

Wayanad is home to a number of beautiful waterfalls. Soochipara Falls are the most famous of them all. Located about 22 km from Kalpetta, the road to the falls passé through tea gardens and thereafter you have to trek for a kilometer-and-a-half to reach this majestic fall hidden in the dense equatorial forest. Kanthanpara Falls are also located nearby. Meenmutty Falls, located 29 km from Kalpetta, can be reached through a 2 km forest trek. The fall plunges from a height of 1000 ft and has a triple-decker effect.

The adventure loving travelers can take a trek to the Chembra Peak – the tallest peak of the region located at an altitude of 6890 ft. It takes 5 hours to reach the summit and on the route to the summit, at an altitude of 4900 ft, you will encounter, a crystal clear lake, whose breathtaking beauty will take away all your exhaustion.

The town of Sultan Bathery, named after Tipu Sultan, is located 35 km from Vythiri and stands at the junction of Kerala, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. It is known for its breathtaking scenery. Edakal Caves located nearby are a must-visit. Located on a hilltop, the engravings in the caves are believed to be 3000 year old.

The wildlife lovers can visit the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary. The religious minded traveler can visit Thirunelli Temple, located in the Brahmagiri Range, amidst dense forests. The Papanasini River flows beside the temple and it is believed that you can wash away all your sins by taking a bath in the river.
